Birthstone Beauty: July Edition

Birthstone Beauty July Edition Ruby

July’s birthstone is the ruby, and is said to guarantee many great things such as success in love. Maybe that’s why red is associated to love, and why red lips are so fascinating… More info about the gem here.

For this look I was inspired by 1950’s Hollywood glam, which is what a ruby makes me think of. I adapted the look to the season: dewey skin, matte eyeshadows, etc. Overall, it’s a minimalist look, with a strong focus on the ruby-coloured lips. It is very easy to recreate, and any woman, no matter her age, can pull off this look. I think every woman should focus on her most beautiful/favourite assets when doing her makeup. For this look, the lips are very bright, but the bold brows are also very present and the skin is very natural-looking.

Eyes: After applying primer on my lids, I used MAC’ eyeshadow in “brulé” all over the lid.  I then applied different eyeshadows from Smashbox’s On the Rocks palette: “marzipan” as a highlight on the brow bone, “totally nude” in the center of the lid, “sable” in the crease, the outer corner and under the eyes, and finally “snow” in the inner corner. All eyeshadows are matte. To complete this look, I lined my upper lid with Stila’s Stay All Day waterproof eyeliner in “jet black”, and I coated my lashes with several coats of mascara.

Face: The foundation I used is MAC’s Mineralize moisture foundation. It has a dewey finish and leaves skin looking natural. Bronzer and highlight are from Urban Decay’s naked flushed palette, in “Naked”. Blush is Clinique in “Sunset Glow”. To add some vavavoom to my brows, I defined them using a warmer, darker shade of brown than the one I usually use. I also drew slightly outside my natural brows to make them larger. I used MAC’s eyeshadow in “Charcoal Brown” from the Enchanted Eve palette in “warm”.

Lips: I started by defining my lips in a geometrical shape that accentuates the cupid’s bow by using MAC’s lip liner in “cherry”. I then applied Bite Beauty’s lipstick in “Mimosa” and completed the look with a lip gloss from the same brand and of the same name.

Let me know what is your favourite red lipstick, I’m curious!

    1. Aww thank you! I’m glad you liked the makeup 🙂 Yeah red lips=all eyes on you, and it can be tough… Try using a red tinted balm; not as “in your face” as a richly pigmented lipstick! -xox-

  1. This is beautiful! I think my very favorite red is the Clinique Chubby Stick in Mightiest Marachino. It’s really pigmented and you can build it from a semi-sheer wash to really opaque.

    I love your blog!
