MAC Studio Fix 24h Concealer : Worth it or not?

MAC Studio Fix 24h concealer review

Last fall, when the MAC Studio Fix concealer was released, I was probably the most excited about it and had the highest expectations. You know I’m a sucker for a fantastic, life-transforming concealer! When I got my hands on Nars’ Soft Matte concealer, I knew this thing was more than your average dark circle eraser. In fact, it has become my daily (not so) secret weapon. And once you have found THE ONE, it is difficult to find anything that can be as performing, let alone surpass it, right? So I was eager to test MAC’s newest concealer and see if it’s as good as it’s said to be – and if it can beat and replace my beloved Nars.

A new member of the family: MAC Studio Fix 24h concealer

Everyone or so is familiar with MAC’s Studio Fix foundation: it is medium to full coverage, has a matte finish and is available in a plethora of shades. Very popular around the world, it is by far the most renowned foundation by the Canadian makeup brand. The concealer that goes by the same name promises to do just the same. In fact, according to MAC’s website, “the formula wears up to 24 hours while providing medium-to-full buildable coverage”. It is also said to have ” a natural matte finish that’s never dry or cakey.” Let’s put it to the test!

The verdict

I love how easy it is to apply: it blends perfectly, dries nicely and rapidly, and stays put all day long. Also, it doesn’t require a powder to set it or to make it look less shiny. The finish is perfect as is! The coverage is medium to full, just a little less than the Nars Soft Matte. Overall, it’s a great product for everyday use. It covers up imperfections, can even replace your foundation, and is perfect to contour your face. My favourite part about this concealer? It DOES. NOT. CREASE. And that’s a true miracle!

I am particularly impressed by the coverage and the finish of this product, so I would still give it a thumbs up.
Left: eye with concealer. Right: eye without concealer.

On the downside, in addition to the scent being a little too strong, the concealer oxidizes a bit and becomes at least a shade darker once it dries. Not cute. Also, the sponge tip applicator deposits a lot of product so I feel like this concealer will become empty rapidly.

It can be tricky to find your shade for this concealer as you can’t really rely on your typical foundation shade at MAC. For example, my foundation shade is N4, close to NW13, and my concealer is in the shade NW28… That’s not even close! 🙁

Would I repurchase this product? Totally, but in a lighter shade considering it oxidizes. I am particularly impressed by the coverage and the finish of this product, so I would still give it a thumbs up.

What is your all-time favourite concealer?
