Bioré’s Baking Soda Micellar Water | Review

bioré baking soda micellar water review skin care beat blush

Last week a super exciting package came through the mail! It was my very first product to review from Topbox.ca: Bioré’s baking soda micellar water! Baking soda was, so far, an ingredient I only used in the kitchen, so using it on my face was very intriguing to me.

What’s the deal with baking soda as skin care?

Due to its alkaline pH (aka basic), baking soda neutralizes skin’s natural acidity. On top of that, it also has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. This is why it is perfect to prevent and heal pimples and other impurities on the skin. However, it is a powerful ingredient so it shouldn’t be used in too large quantities or too often. You don’t want to mess with chemistry!

I have been using Bioré’s baking soda micellar water to remove my makeup and clean my face at night for over a week now, so here is my full review!

The claims: myth or reality?

Bioré’s baking soda micellar water is specifically designed for combination skin, which means that it can tackle both dry/normal skin and oily skin. It is quite rare to find skin care targeting this skin type because the product has to be gentle enough for the skin on the cheeks, but has to attack the oil and impurities on the T zone. I was very glad that Bioré designed a product line specifically for those needs. After all, combination skin is the most common skin type!

Packaging and scent

The translucent bottle feels very modern and “pure”: perfect for a cleansing product! It pours very nicely onto a cotton pad without making a mess and holds perfectly in the hand. The scent is gentle and very pleasing: it smells clean and fresh.

The verdict

I love a good product that is an all-in-one once in a while! My time is very precious so I appreciated that the product could cleanse my face AND remove my makeup without being too harsh on my skin. It didn’t feel oily, or drying or sticky on my face, which is fantastic.

I wouldn’t use Bioré’s baking soda micellar water twice daily as I noticed that it can be a little drying on some areas of my face. My makeup was easily removed without having to rub too much, but I personally wouldn’t use the product on the eyes too much. Since it is designed to target pores, I would suggest that you avoid drier areas such as eyelids. Overall, it did a fantastic job cleaning and refreshing my face and I did notice that my pores were smaller and cleaner.

I would totally recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a great micellar water! Thank you Topbox and Bioré for sending me this product! <3

Have you tried baking soda in your skincare routine before?

  1. Amazing! I was actually looking for a new makeup remover as well as cleanser. I wanted to go DIY, but there are so many little oils to buy and I don’t have the budget for it right now…

Would you use it just to clean your face or do you feel it is better uses as a makeup remover ? You know me, I don’t wear makeup everyday so it would be used mainly to wash my face before going to bed…

Also, my bangs this summer created this land of blackheads on my forehead 🙁 so looking for something not too harsh that can help on that side…

    1. Thanks for reading Rosie!! You could totally try this micellar water, I think it would be perfect for your needs as it works wonderfully on cleaning the face and getting reads of blackheads/impurities! It could be a little drying on the skin in the wintertime, but it’s nothing a good moisturizer won’t solve 😉
As for the DIY cleanser, you can try cleaning your face with just water and a bit of baking soda, which would be very budget-friendly, but it’s not recommended to do that daily as it will dry your skin too much… Let me know how it goes!! <3
