We often talk about the newest makeup we bought, so I thought I’d talk to you about the OLDEST makeup I own. Yes, for real! Come with me on a makeup trip down memory lane!
I have been a makeup collector/hoarder/maniac for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I just loved looking into my mom’s makeup bag which didn’t contain a plethora of makeup, but still. It was heaven! I think I was drawn to the colours, the tiny brushes inside the pretty packaging, and the smell. Ohhh the smell of makeup!Β π
Cute retro compacts
I kept an old blushΒ from Lise Watier that belonged to my mother, and look at that packaging: it is gold and has aΒ pearly effect! I don’t use it anymore because it’s probably 20 years old but the shade was truly gorgeous.
My makeup obsession rapidly grew and I amassed a nice little collection of my own even before I was a teen. Recently, I found a few remnants of the said collection and I am very happy to share them with you! Hope it brings back some memories for you too π
If like me, you grew up in the 1990s, you’ve probably owned at least one makeup item similar to these! Growing up in QuΓ©bec, Ardene was the one store where a tween could find anything, from cheap glittery makeup to fishnet socks (I had an emo phase ok!) and anything in between.
Glittery glosses: a trip down memory lane
I am so happy that I kept a few items from my collection – which I swear, was way, way bigger than that!! Now I have a souvenir of the thick, grease-like gloss π In fact, the texture was more like jelly rather than gloss! How gross now that I think about it…
As a child, I was a huuuuge fan of lipgloss -which I now despise (coincidence? I think not!). Not only did I own a TON of them, I would also wear an indecent amount of product on my lips. :O
I also loved baby blue eyeshadow. My favourite look back then was Britney in her Oops I did it Again video:
So early 2000!! It’s too bad I didn’t keep the baby blue eyeshadow but I can still remember how the L’Oreal compact looked. I wouldn’t wear anything like that nowadays, but back then, I thought this look was the epitome of beauty!
And finally, who remembers when Hilary Duff released her collection Stuff by Duff? I wasn’t even a fan of the singer but I felt this much closer to Hollywood and stardom when I wore this!! Lies, lies, lies π Anyhow, this makeup item must have felt very precious to baby me because I didn’t dare use it too muchΒ π
Makeup has always been a source of happiness for me and the obsession never left πΒ I hope you enjoyed this little makeup trip down memory lane! I had a good laugh to see how far I’ve come, that’s for sure! What was your favourite makeup item as a kid? Does your makeup obsession also go way back?

LOL this is so great! Brings back all of the memories and makes me wish I kept all of my old makeup from my kiddie days.
Surprisingly, I never owned any makeup from Ardene, but still had very similar greasy colourful/glittery lipglosses in cutesy packaging. So 90’s, it’s awesome!
Haha I guess every child who grew up in the 1990s owned the same glittery makeup!! What a great decade π
Do you remember where you used to buy your makeup as a kid? I’m just curious π
I think most of my products were from Bonne Bell! Most people remember them for their Lip Smackers, but they had all kinds of products very similar to the ones in your photos!
Ooooh my, YES I owned a ton of these lip smackers!! I had forgotten the brand’s name but now I totally remember! Thanks for the throwback π
Reblogged this on LIFE STORY'S FROM LINCOLN.
Thanks so much!! π
This is such a fun post!!!! I totally recognize myself in the products that you shares. Anything shiny and glittery was in my stash haha. I was also obsessed with blue eyeshadow xx
Haha I’m so glad I’m not the only one with those obsessions! That means we were probably very trendy back then! π
I didnβt have much makeup as a kid, my mom didnβt let me start wearing makeup until I was in 8th grade I think. But I do remember owning the glittery lip glosses, man what a throwback!! ππ
Yes, it was such a throwback for me too! :O I don’t think I wore makeup in public, but I loved experimenting with colours at home! -xox-
Lovely post this definitely brought back many memories in this post π I was also a lover of gloss back in the day and it wasn’t gloss to me if it didn’t have lots of glitter in it! , now I’m the complete opposite and like cream or matt finishes.
Hahaha I felt the same way about gloss!! The more glittery it was, the better! Now I stay away from anything sticky on my lips :O
