Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Metal Minis Review

smashbox be legendary set liquid lipsticks

Last fall, I bought a kit of 3 mini liquid metal lipsticks, the Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Metal Minis. It contains 3 beautiful shades that will suit most makeup lovers: Crimson Chrome (red), Foiled Brat (purple), and Mauve Squad (pink). Of course, I was drawn to the purple shade when I purchased it, but I ended up wearing the red one more often. Blame it on the holidays! You can purchase some of the shades and many more from Smashbox.

The packaging

Smashbox states: “High impact colour meets high-shine finish with this trio of stunner shades”, and each lipstick is 5mL (the regular size is 8mL).

The packaging is very modern and vibrant, with the black background contrasting nicely with the image of the lipsticks that seem to leak on the box. The mini sizes are super cute and easy to use: sometimes the packaging is too small to be used properly but that isn’t the case here.

The applicator is quite large and has a pointy tip for a precise application.

Finish and pigmentation

The one thing that makes me disappointed about this product is that it doesn’t dry at all. I was mistaken by the word “liquid” in the name and wrongfully assumed that this was a liquid lipstick. It is NOT. This is more like a highly pigmented gloss with a metallic finish. Also, due to the glossy texture, there is a LOT of transfer! 🙁

On the plus side, the pigmentation is incredible and the product can be worn alone. However, there is some inconsistency between shades: the lighter shade is more patchy than the other two.

Considering that a single lipstick is 24CAN$, this set is a great deal, as you get 3 beautiful colours for the price of 1. Also, because a metallic lip isn’t something most people would wear every day, a mini size is a great option.

Nonetheless, I regret purchasing the Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Metal lipsticks. I am not a fan of the glossy finish and texture at all. It becomes very messy if you eat or drink and just feels heavy on the lips. I still think these are fun to own, but I would not recommend them. Save your money!

  1. That is why I generally dislike lipgloss. I hate it when my lipgloss smudges and smears anywhere and leaves a disgusting feeling on the lips. The only reason I bought them, just like you with these, that they look special and somehow gloss has some sort of appeal. 🙂
Nowadays I prefer tints. I don’t know if you have ever heard of Peripera. But they make somewhat glossy tints that do not smudge but still have the creamy, light feeling you associate with a good lipgloss.

    1. I totally agree! Ever since liquid lipsticks came out, that’s pretty much all I’ve been wearing because I hate the sticky feeling of gloss!
Ohh I’ve never heard of Peripera but I will check that out, thank you for the tip! -xox-
