Tarte Review – Unexpected Haul – Crazy Deal

tarte cosmetics makeup review

About once a year, Tarte has a crazy deal on its website: 7 items for around 84CAN$. This deal is too good to pass on so I decided to give it a try. I think it’s a great way to replenish your makeup bag and to get to really try the brand. Read below for my thoughts on the deal and a full Tarte review!

Why is this deal so good – Tarte deal Review

The kit you get to create for yourself consists of 7 items. You can pick a brush, a foundation, a blush, a lipstick, an eyeliner, a mascara, and a cute makeup pouch.

Almost every item is customizable: not only can you pick the shade but also what product you want for each category. For example, you can pick between at least 4-5 options of foundation (full coverage, powder, CC stick, etc.), lip products, eye products, etc. I love the fact that you get 1 product from each category. That way, I can really write a full Tarte review.

  • an Empowered hybrid gel foundation (now discontinued)
  • the bronze and glow contour brush (now discontinued)

  • an Amazonian clay waterproof liner
  • a Tarteist quick dry matte lip paint
  • a makeup bag

My Full Tarte review

Tarte is a vegan makeup brand well-known for its shape tape concealer and its tartelette eyeshadow palettes.

Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in “exposed”

I expected this shade to be pale, but it is very pale. It barely shows on my skin unless I put a lot and I have very fair skin. For this reason, I use it as a soft contour, which looks more natural than an actual contour product on anyone with very pale skin. Tarte blushes are quite dense (hard-pressed) so might need to give it a few swipes before picking up enough product. The design on the powder is beautiful though!

Lights, camera, lashes 4-in-1 mascara in “black”

The packaging seems to be made out of faux-leather (the brand is vegan) which makes the mascara look super fancy and precious. The brush is really great: not too small and not too big. It really separates the lashes and coats them with the perfect amount of mascara. Great volume guaranteed! Is this my favourite mascara? No. Is it a product I would repurchase? Most probably.

Amazonian clay waterproof liner in “cobalt”

This one is a little disappointing because I was expecting a nice electric blue liner, but the pigmentation really isn’t there unless you apply 3 coats of liner… On the other hand, this eyeliner’s texture is perfect!! It doesn’t dry on the brush while you apply it and it glides perfectly across the lids. So this compensates for the lack of pigmentation in my opinion!

Tarteist quick dry matte lip paint in “get it!”

The wear is quite good and it is comfortable (it is not drying). The application goes well too. I’m a little disappointed because the shade I picked doesn’t suit me very well: it’s too orangey! And I’m a girl who likes to wear ANY colour on my lips… However, this shade is a big no-no.

Another issue I have with Tarte liquid lipsticks is their packaging. I have a few of them and there’s a bit of oil that leaks from them even when tightly closed… I hope they fixed this issue by now! It’s quite annoying because I’m scared of carrying these lipsticks in my purse…

Empowered hybrid gel foundation in “light neutral”

**discontinued**

I love the packaging of this product! The glass container with touches of purple and gold is so precious. The texture of this foundation is fun and rather thick. The foundation has a light smell that is actually not annoying at all. The coverage is quite good: I wouldn’t say this is full coverage, but somewhere close to that. Plus, the coverage is buildable so you can get that full coverage look!

The only downside is that it remains a little tacky on the skin, even after setting it with powder… Also, this foundation feels quite heavy in the summer. Overall, this is not my favourite foundation and I don’t reach out for it very often. I prefer something that feels much lighter on the skin, almost “barely-there”.

Bronze & glow contour brush

**discontinued**

The brush is super cute with the wood part and the gold pieces too. The bristles are so soft! The “bronze” part is HUGE and the bristles are very dense. It is perfect for bronzing or applying powder all over. The brush on the “glow/contour” side is very soft and not too dense. It is perfect for a delicate and precise application. Overall, this is a perfect brush for both pros and beginners!

However, I find that I don’t really reach out for it that often. And the fact that it is double-sided makes it hard to store I find.

Overall, this is a great deal, but I’m disappointed in a few products or don’t really reach out for them. If you are curious about trying Tarte, I would recommend starting with their palettes or a foundation – just not the one I picked!

Were you able to get your hands on this crazy deal? What are your favourite products from Tarte?

  1. This deal was INSANE. But I was on a no-buy so I just had to pretend I was partaking. I even created a cart and selected my items and shades… and then closed the tab! 😆
I had the Tarte blush in Exposed and I didn’t care for it either – I ended up giving it away. I just think the formula isn’t that great – it doesn’t blend nicely.
I am looking forward to getting that Tarte birthday present in July for that blush shade in “paaarty” – it looks much nicer than Exposed!
    Enjoy your goodies!

    1. Ohh that sucks that you didn’t like the blush! I had heard so many great things about the Amazonian clay blush, but was a little disappointed too 🙁 Let me know how you like you bday gift!! The mini sizes are to die for! -xox-
