Trying Fermented Beauty Products with Soy Bio +

When I showed my friend the products I got at the Skinvestment event, the first thing she noticed was the words “fermented” on Soy Bio +’s products. She asked me about the purpose and the benefits of it, and quite frankly, I had no clue.

Of course, we’ve all heard of Kombucha and other fermented foods. However, it is the first time I see a beauty product that contains fermented ingredients. I tried both products and did a little research about the ingredients.

The brand’s main ingredient is fermented small black soybean. It originates from South-East Asia and was previously called “medicine bean” due to its powers. The best part about this bean: it contains 18x more peptides than any regular bean! That’s what makes it so special and interesting for cosmetics purposes!

Fermented mist 100mL

I tried the Soy Bio + mist first. I have to admit that I was afraid it would have a bad smell. Let’s be honest, “fermented” doesn’t sound like a synonym for fresh flowery scents, right? Thank goodness, the spray has a very subtle, barely there scent that is hard to describe but pleasant. The product is slightly opaque and has a milky aspect, probably due to the soybeans.

The website states that this mist is designed to “soothe skin troubles and help to regenerate damaged skin” as well as lift the skin. It contains adenosine and niacinamide to provide a “brighter skin tone and anti-wrinkle effects“. That’s a lot for a mist!

The product sprays very evenly: one spray covers the whole face with a very fine, diffuse mist. It also rapidly dries and is non-sticky and non-greasy. This mist is very hydrating and gives a nice glow to my skin. I like to apply it both day and night, and even right after the shower to rehydrate my face.

Fermented Shampoo 150mL

This Soy Bio + shampoo has a very delicate fresh scent with a hint of peppermint. The website states that it is safe enough to be used for babies and by pregnant women, and it can even be used as a body cleanser. It helps scalp troubles, such as dandruff or hair loss by nourishing the scalp and making the roots stronger.

The tube packaging is aesthetically pleasing and I love that it takes no place in my shower caddy.

A little goes a long way: it produces thick foam, as if you mixed shampoo and conditioner and made it foam. After only one use, I noticed how very hydrating this shampoo is: once dried, my hair looked as if I had used conditioner and an anti-frizz product even though I used none. In fact, my hair looked like the 2nd or even 3rd day after I’ve washed my hair, which is when I personally think it looks best. My favourite aspect about this shampoo is that it leaves my hair with no frizz at all!

The only downside is that my hair rapidly looks greasy and I have to wash it every other day while I usually wash it once every 3-4 days. So there is a price to pay for the hydrating effect… For this reason, I would recommend this shampoo to people with dry and/or frizzy hair, but it’s maybe not the best match for anyone with normal hair. I might keep it for winter when my hair is drier.

Overall, I am not entirely sure that fermented products are right for me, but I am glad I got the chance to try them! The mist I will keep for sure and continue to use on a daily basis, but the shampoo I will have to try again in the winter and see if it still makes my hair look greasy.

Have you ever tried fermented beauty products?

  1. This is the first time I ever hear of fermented beauty products so thanks for the informing me. I would definitely try the mist but not the shampoo, cause my hair can get easily greasy!!

  2. Fermented ingredients are excellent for the skin and very highly raved about in the K-Beauty community! SK-II and Missha use fermented ingredients in their star products 🙂

So nice to see you enjoying these products… I’ve never heard of this brand before, but I’ll surely check them out. Thanks for sharing Marika 🙂
